Lee Brinson

SMT

Class of 1997

Starting as an intern out of the University of North Carolina, Brinson has worked at SMT for 26 years. SMT, with three decades of developing best-in-class broadcast technology solutions, named Brinson, Vice President, Client Services in 2021. Brinson is responsible for the company’s product delivery, maintaining client relationships, and providing innovative broadcast solutions for SMT’s clients. SMT’s client base includes the major broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX), traditional cable outlets (ESPN, CBS Sports Network, FS1), streaming platforms (Amazon Prime, Peacock, Paramount +), and various sports leagues (NHL, PGA).

Prior to being named VP, Client Services, Brinson was the Director of Special Events managing SMT’s efforts with ESPN’s X Games, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on CBS, and NBC’s coverage of the Tour de France.
A four-time Sports Emmy winner, Brinson’s SMT career has taken him from US based NASCAR and IndyCar racetracks, NFL, college football, and basketball stadiums and arenas to the Alpine mountain tops of the Tour de France. Among those events are 22 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Fours, 4 Super Bowls, 10 Tours de France, and 17 NFL seasons.
Brinson (class of 1997) and his wife, Julianna, have two children – Amelia and Noah – and live in Chapel Hill.
