Managing Executive, Properties & Media

2019 Bio:

Dean Jordan is the Managing Executive of Properties and Media at Wasserman. In this role, Jordan leads all client media rights strategy and negotiation engagements. He is also guides non-media engagements with sports properties and investors on a variety of revenue growth and development initiatives, operational strategies, market analysis, and due diligence.

In the collegiate space, most recently Jordan represented the Atlantic Coast Conference’s in its partnership with ESPN for the ACC Network which launched on August 22nd and continues to advise the conference. Current collegiate engagements include working with the NCAA on business strategy for various initiatives; representing the Mountain West Conference in negotiations for a new television agreement; and advising individual schools such as Alabama and Vanderbilt on athletic business activities.

During his tenure, he has led Wasserman’s successful media rights representation of such collegiate clients as the College Football Playoff, the NCAA, Notre Dame, Big 12, and Pac-12. He has also directed Wasserman’s efforts with both media and non-media related engagements for clients such, the USGA, NASCAR, MLS, USTA, USOC, various MLB, NBA, & NFL franchises, and private investors.

Jordan’s career spans 35 years and includes senior executive experience across team sports and media. As Executive Vice President at OnSport, he led the sports properties and media consulting efforts for the firm until it was acquired by Wasserman in 2007.

Prior to OnSport/Wasserman, he spent two years as President, Alternate Governor, and COO of the Carolina Hurricanes. From 1991 to 1998, he concurrently held senior executive positions with Huizenga Sports and Entertainment (HSE) properties in South Florida, including the Florida Marlins (EVP), Florida Panthers (EVP/COO/Alternate Governor) and Miami Dolphins (EVP) and Front Row Communications (President/COO) a company created to manage HSE’s media investments and the collective marketing efforts for HSE properties. As President of Front Row, he led the successful development of the company’s regional sports network venture and oversaw other HSE media investments. While at HSE he became first individual to concurrently serve as an executive officer for three teams and the first to lead the launch of two professional expansion franchises in the span of just 24 months.

During his time as baseball executive from 1988 to 1998, Jordan served on the National League TV Committee and a MLB Committee appointed to address issues related to TV Superstations such as WTBS-Atlanta, WGN-Chicago, and WOR-New York.

Previously, Jordan served in broadcast and sales management positions with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penn State Athletics after beginning his career as an announcer and producer with the University of Virginia football and basketball networks.

Jordan is currently a member of the Sport Development Advisory Board at USA Baseball, serves on the Board of Trustees at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, and in 2016 was appointed by the North Carolina Legislature to serve Judicial Standards Commission which provides oversight of the state’s judicial system. He and his wife Gail reside in Raleigh, NC and have two children, Caroline, an actor, singer, songwriter in New York, and Adam, a senior at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
