Since the creation of ESPN Films’ Peabody, Emmy and Academy Award-winning 30 for 30 documentary series, John Dahl has served as Executive Producer, overseeing editorial content and production of more than 100 films. While continuing in an EP role for the series as ESPN’s Vice President and Executive Producer of Original Content and Special Projects, he leads other major content initiatives as well.

Dahl oversees all aspects of large, historically based projects, including original content development, films, production, programming strategy, distribution and sales. He created and is now overseeing ESPN’s College Football 150, featuring more than 30 hours of original content based on the 150th anniversary of the sport in 2019; and he’s spearheading production and planning for the 10-part, 10-hour documentary series The Last Dance that’s grounded in Michael Jordan’s final championship season with the Chicago Bulls. Additionally, he is the content lead for all college sports-focused documentary programming across ESPN’s networks, highlighted by the SEC Storied series.

Throughout his award-winning career at ESPN, Dahl has focused on documentary work and original content initiatives. Prior to his efforts on 30 for 30, Dahl was a Producer for SportsCentury and the 50 Greatest Athletes series, before moving on to Executive Producer responsibilities for ESPN Classic and the ESPN25 project, a special on the 1958 NFL Championship Game, and anthology series highlighting Muhammad Ali, the history of NASCAR and the first 40 years of the Super Bowl. He graduated with Honors from the University of North Carolina in 1986, with a degree in Radio, TV and Motion Pictures.
