2018 Bio:

Nicholas Carey has held a variety of roles in sports and entertainment marketing over the past 18 years. His experience working with global corporations and sports properties through positions in the media, corporate sponsor and agency sides of the sports industry has earned him recognition as one of SportsBusiness Journal’s Forty Under 40, an award honoring the most promising young executives in sports business under the age of 40.

Nicholas is Senior Vice President and Head of Sponsorships and Hospitality at Wells Fargo, where he leads the organization’s sponsorship marketing activities, including strategy, negotiation and property management, as well as hospitality function. In this role, he and his team oversee a national sports and entertainment sponsorship portfolio that includes: the PGA TOUR, Wells Fargo Championship and The First Tee; Major League Soccer (and five teams); Wells Fargo Center/Flyers; AEG/Staples Center/Kings; performing arts and museums; and numerous major college sports programs and bowl games.

Under his leadership, Wells Fargo has established key programs in the youth and college sports space, including, among other things, a national recognition program for First Tee participants, financial education for NCAA student-athletes and post-graduate scholarships for athletes looking to pursue a career outside of professional sports.

Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Nicholas was senior director of consulting for SportsMark Management Group, where he lead the agency's US strategic consulting practice. This involved developing sponsorship marketing strategies for global sponsor brands and working closely with large sporting events.
Prior to SportsMark, Nicholas spent four years at Charles Schwab & Co. overseeing the brokerage firm’s sponsorships of the PGA Tour/Champions Tour, US Ski Team, and various professional athletes, such as Phil Mickelson and Bode Miller; before that, Nicholas worked for ESPN Television in a special events role covering NCAA sports.

He is involved with The First Tee, both nationally as a Trustee, and sits on the board of Champions for Education, the non-profit organizing committee for the Wells Fargo Championship.

Nicholas was born and raised in London, attended the Lawrenceville School for high school then received a BA in Psychology from University of North Carolina. He lives in New Orleans with his wife, Jean, and their three children.
